You may look at Fairbanks, Alaska, and think, man, that would be a beautiful place to live, and it is beautiful. However, former residents say they left because of the high cost of living, particularly gas prices, medical insurance, and other everyday expenses. When you look at the average household take-home, you might think it’s good, but when the prices are jacked up, even the $200,000+ is not enough to live comfortably. Another factor may be the lack of job creation in the area.
