Spending time in nature is among the best ways to relax after a hard day of work and reconnect with your inner self. If you are living in Canada or planning to visit this beautiful country, one mountain peak that you shouldn’t miss out on is Dundas Peak in Hamilton. It offers an astonishing view, and that is one of the main reasons why thousands of tourists are climbing to it each year. However, some don’t come to take a photo but rather to enjoy the fantastic setting that this peak offers. One woman had intentions of simply sitting down and enjoying the view, but what she saw will amaze you!

Astonishing Peak

There are numerous reasons why Dundas Peak is so popular, including the fact that it is one of the best spots to enjoy the beautiful Tews Falls. Also, once you are at the top, you will be overlooking the city of Hamilton. As we have mentioned above, thousands of tourists climb up to take astonishing photos, and from what we have detected, the best time to do so is during the fall because of the beautiful contrast that the colorful leaves would provide.

Something Lurking in the Wild

Much like the woman that snapped the photo that went viral, you probably enjoy taking photos when you are in nature. Frankly, it is almost impossible to capture on a camera the beauty that Mother Nature offers, but that is no reason for you not to give it a try. With this in mind, the viral photo that we are talking about here showed something that no one expected, including the woman who took the photo.

Is It Safe?

If you are ever planning a hiking trip, you will want to make sure that the trails you will be walking on are completely safe. Also, check with the locals and find out if there are some precautions that you should take. When it comes to hiking to Dundas Peak, it all depends on how experienced you are. While it is not as physically demanding as some other trails, there have been multiple hikers reported missing after they went on this trail.

Hiding Behind

Our story begins when one climber visited Dundas Peak and wanted to take a spectacular photo at the cliff. That is exactly what happened, but unlike with most photos from this spot, this one was peculiar. After further review, the hiker noticed that something was lurking in the background. While he didn’t notice it immediately, when he came back home and showed it to his cousins, they were all amazed by what they saw.

Replicating the Sight

Inspired by what her cousin was able to capture, Kim decided to try and replicate the photo by going for a hike with her partner. After covering a 2.4-mile trail, they finally arrived at the spot where the man we mentioned above took the astonishing photo. As expected, the view was impressive, not only of Hamilton below but also of fantastic Tews Falls, which we recommend everyone go and visit.

Unique Discovery

Sitting at the cliff and preparing for a photoshoot were two other women aside from Kim and her partner, who were hanging out at Dundas Peak. As they were all enjoying the beautiful nature that surrounded them, the women were astonished by what they saw lurking in the wild. At first, they weren’t sure if they had mistaken it for something else, but very soon, everything was clear. 

Lost Keys

What they saw was a set of keys that was hanging from a nearby branch - just around 3 feet away from the spot that the woman and Kim’s partner were standing at. No matter how beautiful this place was, they were sure that no one would have left their keys at the peak intentionally. With this in mind, they took the glistening set down and got a closer look.

Hyundai Elantra

As they were sure that someone was probably looking everywhere for these keys, they decided to try to find any sort of contact info. Kim did her best to lean towards the branches and get the keys while also making sure that she didn’t lose her footing, as it was close to the edge of the cliff. What she immediately saw was that the set was from a Hyundai Elantra, which made things even more interesting.

Sun Was Setting

While they were confused as to what had happened and were doing their best to figure out ways to find the person that lost their keys, they were also aware that the sun was setting down. As night was falling, they decided to go back to the starting spot. They didn’t want to stay at the peak too late because there have been numerous reports of people getting lost while trying to make their way back during the night after the park had closed.

Something Eerie

Making their way back to the parking lot wasn’t anywhere near as complicated as they thought it would be. In fact, they were even more motivated to get back to try to find out what the keys were all about. Once they arrived, what they came across made them question things even more. Apart from their car, the only other one in the parking lot was a Hyundai Elantra, which matched the keys they were holding.

Decision Making

As they were wondering what to do, one thing was certain. They didn’t want to stay for the night or even for the next couple of hours hoping that the owner of the car may appear. What they decided was to leave the keys on the roof of the car and hope that the man/woman that had lost them would successfully find them. 

A Shock

When they came home, what they found was even more shocking. Looking at numerous Facebook posts and a couple of local news stations, they found out that there was a woman reported missing at Dundas Peak some time ago. Even more surprisingly, police said that a Hyundai Elantra vehicle belonged to the missing person. At this point, Kim and her partner weren’t sure what to do, given the fact that they were scared and eager to help the case at the same time.

Resurfacing Details

As we mentioned above, they thought it was best to leave the keys on top of the roof. Although they were thinking of ways to help the police with the case, they knew there wasn’t anything relevant that they could say, which is the main reason why they kind of forgot about what happened very soon after. However, after the photo that they took went viral, there was something that a Reddit user noticed. It triggered an online chain reaction of people guessing whether it had any connection with the missing person case.

Side-by-Side

While thousands of users across Reddit and Facebook were discussing the photos, Kim had no clue that her and her cousin's photos were being inspected side by side. In fact, she was surprised that it ended up going viral and was questioning what would come out of all that. At the time that she viewed the posts, there were already hundreds of comments discussing the similarities, as well as the awe-inspiring sight that could be seen in the photo. 

Hiding Signs

As thousands of users online were busy trying to discern between the two photos that were taken at Dundas Peak, Kim decided to join the crew and analyze the potential similarities for herself. That was when she saw that there were a couple of details that set the two photos apart. The signs that she was able to detect stimulated her curiosity even further, and she went on to consult a couple of friends and family members about what they thought.

Social Media Solution

As she wasn’t able to get any relevant answers from the people around her, she decided to search for further help from those who were already interested in figuring out what was happening in the two photos. She explained through a couple of social media posts that she and her friends were inspired by the photos that her cousin had taken at Dundas Peak, motivating them to do the same. 

Slender Man

Her initial assumption was that the main thing that was wrong with the photo is that there was a slender man lurking in the background. While it could very well just have been a hallucination or misperception, numerous users supported this claim. Although what they were pointing out looked like a distorted figure, the result was surprising.

Missing Person

As you can see in the photo above, circled in red, there is something that looks like a person in a gray sweater. At first, people were thinking that it could just be another hiker who was looking to find the best spot to sit down and relax. However, that claim was quickly debunked, as the spot that the figure is standing at is completely inaccessible to hikers. With this in mind, the other assumption was that it was the missing woman, as she was last seen in a gray blouse.

Unique Figure

One of the most confusing things of the whole story was the fact that not before or after has the figure appeared in any other photos, and there are thousands taken every year. This is the main reason why people dismiss any paranormal allegations given the fact that the ghost would probably make at least another appearance in tourist photos (or so they thought).

No Logical Explanation

While some were trying to explain the figure using supernatural/paranormal claims, others were thinking that it was just due to the angle of shooting and a misperception caused by a light effect. Frankly, we aren’t sure. Although there is a possibility that it could be a ghost of some hiker who met his/her end at the spot, that can’t exactly be proven.

Tricks of Light

The number of people that were assuming it was caused by an illusion due to the tricky light or that it was a shadow of melted ice was quite large. On the other hand, there were a couple of Reddit users who claimed that they are well experienced with Dundas Peak and that they know of a hidden trail that could take a hiker to this spot, which would dismiss the allegations that it was inaccessible.

Any Logic?

One of the most interesting and most intriguing claims was made by a Reddit user who said that all the fuss is because of him going out for a hike that day in a gray sweater. While he didn’t put out anything to support the claims, the idea was that this person was at the peak the day that the photo was taken. Somehow, they were captured in the background standing at what was said to be an inaccessible spot.

Christmas Eve Crash

While most people were put at ease by that explanation, it only lasted for so long. Very soon after, numerous other theories were created. There was information that on Christmas Eve almost a century before, there was a fatal train collision. With this in mind, many users started thinking that it may have been a paranormal sighting and a ghost of some of the passengers given the fact that the crash happened below Dundas Peak.

Crash Theory

The story was well-known by the locals. There was a crash that happened back in 1934 on Christmas Eve. 15 passengers were pronounced dead, and a couple of others were missing. Although this story isn’t something that locals take too seriously (the part that the ghosts still wander the area), the photo that went viral did spark further discussion on the matter.

What About the Missing Person?

It is amazing how the paranormal allegations sparked so much interest that most people forgot about the fact that Kim and her friend found the keys to the Hyundai Elantra. To this day, the person hasn’t been found, and the case hasn’t been solved. 

Be Cautious When Visiting

Dundas Peak is absolutely worth a visit. However, you should be extremely cautious if you are planning to go. The trail isn’t 100% safe, and who knows, you might be the one uncovering more pieces of the mystery. Our personal recommendation is that you don’t go alone and you won’t be bothered as much by the numerous ghost claims that are posted online, as none of that has been proven.

Not To Be Forgotten

From what Kim and her friend told us, they still visit the peak. However, they will have a tough time forgetting what was captured in the photo, especially because there is no explanation. No one knows what happened to the owner of the Hyundai vehicle, and no one knows who or what was in the background of the Dundas Peak picture. 

Other Cases

What you should keep in mind is that the situation that Kim and her friend went through isn’t the only time something similar to that has happened in the history of hiking and photos. In fact, there are numerous different stories where something similar has happened, whether it was directly related to paranormal activity or simply illusions that were caused by light. While some were captured by people, others were photos by surveillance cameras that were set in the middle of forests. 

Deer-Chasing Creature

Among the most shocking photos that are circling the internet related to unexplained cases is this one. One particular man was noticing that there were a lot of deer carcasses near his house, and that is when he decided to set up a camera to record what was happening. What he found was incredible - the camera captured a winged-like creature going after the deer. Whether this is a mirage or actual proof of devilish activity is something that we probably won’t find out.

Lurking Lambs

One of the craziest yet most amusing stories is depicted in the picture above. One night, a farmer heard some weird noises in front of his house. He went out to find dozens of sheep watching him. Although we are sure that the sheep were very friendly, the photo itself doesn’t point to that given the shiny eyes that are highlighted by the camera flash.

Encounter with a Goose

While most people don’t think of birds as dangerous animals, we are sure that this photo will change their minds. All that you need is to look at the creepy teeth of this goose and realize that these animals are incredibly territorial, aggressive, and unpredictable. For this reason, you should be extra cautious when around geese. 

Escalator and Toes

While we truly hope that this person didn’t lose toes on this escalator ride, this is one of the main reasons why you should either wear closed shoes on such occasions or make sure to pay extra attention to your wandering toes. The stuck flip-flop is a fantastic warning of the numerous outcomes that occur when people aren’t careful enough.

A Trapeze Ladderman

By only looking at this photo, you are sure to be amazed by the fantastic balance that this handyman has. Much like us, you wouldn’t be interested in working on a ladder that is set in such a position. On the other hand, this man seems to be doing quite well.

Air Dancing

For most people, dancing is a fantastic way to relax, take the edge off, and simply have some fun enjoying your favorite music. However, we aren’t as sure how it is to dance thousands of feet above the ground, attached to a man with a parachute by just some ropes.

Frog Side Dish

When it comes to creating a tasty and healthy salad, you can’t go without lettuce. While insects and small animals are proof that these are organic and fresh, finding a frog in a bag of green salad certainly isn’t something that most of us would be satisfied with. The same goes for the Reddit user that posted this photo, questioning whether someone else had a similar situation.

Surfing Danger

Much like dancing, surfing is a fantastic hobby. However, it comes with many dangers, and there are many precautions that you should take no matter how experienced you are. At first, the sight above looks like a surfer’s dream, given the big upcoming wave, but the fact that there is a shark figure down below certainly isn’t something that anyone would be excited about.

Daredevils

In the past couple of years, many youngsters and adolescents have been assuming the position of daredevils, which includes a lot of risky actions, such as holding to the edge of a building. If you are like us, your hands and feet are probably sweating just from looking at this young boy holding on for dear life. While we understand that the adrenaline hype is quite great, people should still be cautious and take into consideration whether or not it is worth risking your life for a cool photo or a short adrenaline fix. 

Unique Sweeping

When we are already talking about risky and dangerous positions, it is hard to miss what this guy is doing. While we are sure that it is not fun, sweeping is something that has to be done on a regular basis, even on some of the tallest structures on the planet. The only thing that we can do, given the fact that we aren’t in this position, is to applaud the man and wish him a lot of luck doing this amazing job!

Snake In For a Visit

 While there are split opinions on whether reptiles are cool or not, we’re sure that most people would feel quite lightheaded if a snake slithered out of their toilet. While a situation such as this one may have been fine if the person was on a hiking trip, the fact that it happened in someone’s home is quite frightening.

Night Birds

If you have watched Hitchcock’s movie The Birds, we are sure that you know these amazing animals can also be quite creepy. That is something that this image points out, as well, given the fact that no one was sure what they were doing late at night in a group. Also, what is it that they were looking for/at? While it is a mystery that only the birds know the answer to, the photo is incredibly eerie. 

Think Twice

No matter how experienced with climbing you are, we are sure that you would think twice before going down this route. From what we can see in this photo, the trail itself is incredibly narrow, and apart from the metal chain (that we hope is tightly attached), there is nothing that is securing you from falling to death.
